Affordable, versatile standing laptop stand, December 13, 2011
By J. (New York, NY USA)

I've been using this for a couple of months, and I have to say I absolutely love this! I am so happy I bought it. (Techni Mobili Mobile Laptop MDF Cart with Storage, Woodgrain, 22-Inch W by 16-Inch D by 44-Inch H)

I bought this because I have been reading about the benefits of standing while working. Because of the price, I wasn't expecting anything top-of-the-line. There ARE concerns, but all were minor for me, esp considering my budget and the alternatives--standing desks that are several hundred or the Ikea option which is not doable for me, because I don't have a car.

This was easy to assemble--well labeled. There was an issue with holes in one piece being covered up with the laminate or whatever the material is, but I just took a screwdriver to it to break through. That should give you an idea of how delicate the fake wood covering is--I actually nicked a corner against my hammer and scraped a bit off. But, unless you're purposely trying to scratch it off, it's durable.

If you're looking for something to regularly move around, I should note that the wheels are so-so--across smooth floors, they're great. They're shaky when moving it across rugs and I imagine if you have carpet, it could be difficult. Nevertheless, the stand is incredibly light. For me (5' 1"), I sorta half lift, have roll it over a door threshhold and onto my rug, and it doesn't deter me at all from moving it around on a daily basis. In fact, when I originally bought this, I intended to leave it in one place. But I've found it so comfortable to use that I'll roll it around (instead of resting my computer on my lap, because it gets so hot and is precarioius) Note: the top doesn't lower enough to use it with a couch. Another note: I keep a couple of books and binders stored in it, which doesn't influence the rolling ability.

I love the size of the top. I have a 15" laptop--there's room for a trackball mouse or your mug of coffee.

I don't really use the shelf below for coffee as is shown in the photo. I find it cumbersome to grab it from below while working. If you're already standing, it's easier to walk a few steps to grab coffee from an adjacent table then to bend down and pick it up from there. And if you have the top lowered for use while sitting, that spot doesn't have enough room for a mug. It's incredible easy to lower the top with the laptop on it. And while sitting, the "wings" that come off the sides are great foot rests.

All in all--I love this and have come to use it more than I originally intended.

Great Podium Alternative, October 15, 2011

Podiums and lecterns are expensive on the public school teacher budget. This laptop "cart" has been a great alternative for its price and versatility.

It will hold two of my teacher manuals normally on the lower shelf or all three manuals with the bindings facing up instead of out like on a bookshelf. On the telescoping shelf, it easily supports an open teacher's manual or a 17 inch laptop.

Once I set the top adjustable shelf to my height, I have had no need to change it and risk breaking the clamp as one reviewer did. It also seems to have a good center of gravity with my teacher's manuals in the bottom shelf, so knocking it over by accident has not occurred as it did from another reviewer.(Techni Mobili Mobile Laptop MDF Cart with Storage, Woodgrain, 22-Inch W by 16-Inch D by 44-Inch H)

It is not difficult to assemble with a power screw driver. But a person who has never assembled modular furniture before, or does not have a power screw driver could easily become frustrated.

For the money, this "podium" is a great classroom tool that doesn't take up a lot of space in a crowded room and can be wheeled out of the way if necessary.
